A lovely Sunday

Today has been a lovely day.

I sold Dylan Bear to a lovely lady in Texas this morning - I will be sad to see him go but glad he is going to such  a good home.

I went to visit my dear friends at Long Eaton Art rooms and came away with a bag full of goodies including a painting and two bags by Diane Dakin and some lovely bits of lace from their bit basket - happy days!

Next I went looking through Long Eaton cemetry for my Great Great Grandmother Sarah Hannah Plackett.

I didn't find her unfortunately but there were many graves that were obscured from view or too badly weathered so I cannot be sure.

Here she is to the left as a young woman and to the right as a grandmother (the little girl is my grandmother Peggy) By all accounts she was a formiddable woman but incredibly kind.

What I did find while walking around was a gorgeous angel that I just have to share with you and also the chapel of rest looked so beautiful in the sunshine.....I hope you don't think me morbid - I always find cemetrys incredibly calming and beautiful places where the past seems to be just around the corner tangible but out of reach.

Last but not least my gorgeous friend Deb of Tin Chapel textiles passed on to me a very special item indeed that I will treasure forever......take a look below!

Isn't she beautiful?

I have called her Sarah Hannah after my Great Grandmother above as she was manufactured in the year of her birth......1873, what a beautiful coincidence!

I have spent all afternoon rubbing Beeswax and cedar oil into her to make her shine - the house smells divine!

Next I am going to clean up her treadle mechanism (but not too much) and then set her up for some stitching.

Thank you Deb

My Birdie

Taking inspiration from our feathered friends, particularly the doves that have been circling round and around even in the terrible weather today...............
This sweet little birdie is taking wing to share her message of love - I have named her Doris the Dove as this little lady is not for sale but her sisters are.......perfect for wedding favours or filled with Lavender as a charm for your boudoir!

Birdies

Spare a thought for the poor birds in this summer downpour, feeding baby birds will be difficult in this prolonged rainy period - these photographs were taken this time last year - what a difference!

Teddy Bears at Queenies Bakehouse

Why not pop to Queenies Bakehouse at 27 Heathcoat Street in Hockley Nottingham for some tea and cake and meet some of my bears that are up for adoption - there are a lot worse ways to spend the afternoon!

Claude

This very special little boy is 6" small and is wearing his jokers outfit for a day at court.
He has little tears rolling down his cheeks as his sweetheart does not notice him no matter how charming or funny he is around her.
Can you hug his tears better?

Made from german mohair and alpaca, filled with steel shot and polyester filling, suede paw pads, German Glass eyes and traditional cotter pin joints - please email me for details.

Mums Birthday

Its so lovely to be able to bake my mum a cake for her birthday - I owe her a few.....she always went to great lengths to make my birthdays special when I was a little girl and the cake was usually the crowning moment!

My Studio

Here are some pictures of the organised chaos in my studio - I like to have things that inspire me all around me so most of my favourite things live in this room and various art purchases are scattered around. Another thing that I like to look at while in my room of creativity are those I love, so I scatter ancestral photos and pictures of my nearest and dearest all over to remind me how lucky I am and where I came from.

So what did I do today?
Where to start.......I finally got around to creating a blog with a little help from my friend Deb of Tin Chapel Textiles - she is one in a million!
After consuming Earl Grey and shortbread we hopped in my little car and hit Belper! We went in every charity shop we could find and bought some pretty skirts and some 1952 Coronation china (come on why not?) then we hit Derwentside Antiques where I bought some fabulous 1950's Print blocks that I am dying to play with, a baby blue and gold teapot, some antique bottles and an old broomstick!
We had a lovely lunch and a glass of vino at the George Hotel (beautiful food I recomend the Mullet) and then Deb literally was like a kid in a sweet shop when we went into "I Should Cocoa" What a place! We had chocolate Tapas and a Chilli Hot Chocolate YUM and then spent a good hour deliberating over which pieces of exquisite jewellery to buy....that was before we even got to the chocolates!
Last but not least we borrowed a lovely little piece of land in Little Eaton to photograph my newest creations - I hope you like looking at them.
All in all a fabulous day - the sort of day us girls should treat ourselves to as often as possible xx
